1. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all individuals at the Drop Zone. Skydiving is a high-risk activity that requires full physical and mental capability. The use of drugs or alcohol can significantly impair judgement, coordination, and reaction time, increasing the risk of serious injury or fatality.

3. Prohibited Substances
The following are strictly prohibited prior to and during participation in any skydiving activity:

Illegal drugs (including but not limited to cannabis, cocaine, MDMA, amphetamines)

Misuse of prescription medication that may impair performance

Alcohol (within a minimum of 8 hours prior to jumping, or longer if impairment is present)

Any substance that may impair cognitive or physical ability
Note: Individuals must ensure they are fit to skydive. If in doubt, they must declare any medication or substance use to a member of staff.
4. Fitness to Skydive
All participants must present themselves in a condition that is:

Free from impairment
The Drop Zone reserves the absolute right to determine whether an individual is fit to participate.
5. Reasonable Suspicion & Testing
If a member of staff has reasonable grounds to suspect that an individual may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, the Drop Zone reserves the right to:

Refuse participation in any skydiving activity

Remove the individual from the aircraft or manifest

Request the individual to undergo a drug and/or alcohol test
Refusal to comply with a requested test will be treated as a positive result.
6. Consequences of Breach
Any individual found to be in breach of this policy may be subject to:

Removal from the Drop Zone

Suspension or termination of membership (where applicable)

Physical Contact During Instruction
Skydiving instruction requires physical contact in order to:
- fit equipment,
- conduct safety checks,
- assist movement,
- and teach procedures safely.
All physical contact must be:
- necessary,
- proportionate,
- professional,
- and respectful.
Where practical, instructors should explain physical contact beforehand.
Any unnecessary or inappropriate physical contact is unacceptable.
Children & Vulnerable Adults
Black Knights Parachute Centre recognises that children and vulnerable adults may require additional safeguarding support and consideration.
Extra care should be taken regarding:
- communication,
- supervision,
- physical contact,
- social media interaction,
- travel,
- emotional dependency,
- and professional boundaries.
Concerns relating to children or vulnerable adults must always be taken seriously and reported appropriately.
Low-Level Concerns
Black Knights Parachute Centre recognises the importance of identifying and responding to low-level safeguarding concerns before behaviour escalates.
A low-level concern may include behaviour that:
- creates discomfort,
- demonstrates poor judgement,
- reflects blurred boundaries,
- or falls below expected professional standards,
even where the behaviour does not meet the threshold for formal disciplinary or criminal action.
Examples may include:
- repeated inappropriate comments,
- favouritism,
- dismissive behaviour,
- excessive personal messaging,
- or conduct regularly described as “just banter.”
Low-level concerns should still be:
- reported,
- recorded,
- reviewed,
- and addressed appropriately.
This helps identify patterns of behaviour and supports early intervention.
Reporting Concerns
Anyone with a safeguarding concern should report it as soon as possible.
Concerns may be reported:
- directly to the designated safeguarding lead,
- through management,
- via the reporting system or QR code,
- or to emergency services where immediate danger exists.

1. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all individuals at the Drop Zone. Skydiving is a high-risk activity that requires full physical and mental capability. The use of drugs or alcohol can significantly impair judgement, coordination, and reaction time, increasing the risk of serious injury or fatality.
2. Scope
This policy applies to:

Licensed skydivers

Student skydivers (including AFF and tandem students)

Instructors, coaches, and staff

Camera flyers

Visitors participating in any skydiving-related activity
3. Prohibited Substances
The following are strictly prohibited prior to and during participation in any skydiving activity:

Illegal drugs (including but not limited to cannabis, cocaine, MDMA, amphetamines)

Misuse of prescription medication that may impair performance
-
Alcohol (within a minimum of 8 hours prior to jumping, or longer if impairment is present)

Any substance that may impair cognitive or physical ability
Note: Individuals must ensure they are fit to skydive. If in doubt, they must declare any medication or substance use to a member of staff.
4. Fitness to Skydive
All participants must present themselves in a condition that is:

Physically capable

Mentally alert
-
Free from impairment
The Drop Zone reserves the absolute right to determine whether an individual is fit to participate.
5. Reasonable Suspicion & Testing
If a member of staff has reasonable grounds to suspect that an individual may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, the Drop Zone reserves the right to:

Refuse participation in any skydiving activity

Remove the individual from the aircraft or manifest
-
Request the individual to undergo a drug and/or alcohol test
Refusal to comply with a requested test will be treated as a positive result.
6. Consequences of Breach
Any individual found to be in breach of this policy may be subject to:

Immediate grounding or refusal to jump

Removal from the Drop Zone
-
Suspension or termination of membership (where applicable)

Notification to relevant governing bodies (e.g. British Skydiving)

Further action where required by law
No refunds will be issued where participation is refused due to suspected or confirmed substance misuse.
7. Responsibility
All individuals share responsibility for maintaining a safe environment. This includes:

Not presenting for skydiving under the influence

Reporting concerns about others where safety may be compromised
8. Policy Enforcement
This policy is enforced by Drop Zone management and instructional staff. All decisions made in the interest of safety are final.
